Cats and The Wiz legend Ken Page has died aged 70

Ken Page, a famous musician, passed away at the age of 70, according to his representative.

Page played the parts of Old Deuteronomy in Cats on Broadway and Lion in the musical The Wiz. He also portrayed the character in the show’s stage film adaptation. Nicely-Nicely Johnson from the first Broadway production of Guys and Dolls and Ain’t Misbehavin’ are among the other theater credits.

When Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s Children of Eden made its world premiere at the Prince Edward Theatre in 1991, Page played the lead role in the West End production.

He performed frequently at the Muny in St. Louis, starting in 1973 and ending in 2024. Most recently, he played Joe in a production of Waitress.

In addition to acting in Dreamgirls and the Torch Song Trilogy, he portrayed Oogie Boogie in the beloved classic animated musical film The Nightmare Before Christmas.
