12 burnt to death, four injured on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway claimed the lives of 12 people on Tuesday afternoon, leaving four others injured. The accident occurred in the Malo, Ogere area, involving a Mazda bus with registration number DDA 733 XA.

What Happened?

The incident took place at around 3:14 p.m. The bus driver, while attempting to overtake another vehicle, lost control of the bus. This led to the bus crashing into the road divider, tumbling over, and catching fire almost immediately. The flames quickly engulfed the vehicle, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.

The Victims

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson in Ogun, Mrs. Florence Okpe, there were 16 people in the bus at the time of the accident. The victims included 12 men, three women, and a female child. Unfortunately, 12 of these individuals were burnt to death, while four men sustained injuries. The injured victims were rushed to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment.

A Call for Caution

In response to this heartbreaking incident, the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. He also took the opportunity to remind motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations.
